The bowl at the Poolcafé in Rotterdam
Rotterdam has gained a new cultural and skate hotspot. Together with the Pooligans, we took on this project from design to realization. The space was completely transformed, with the centerpiece being the 400m2 bowl. Alongside the bowl is a large staircase with skate-able steps.
The request from Rotterdam
Thanks to a citizen initiative, Rotterdam has gained a new cultural hotspot. Together with Pulligans, we took on the challenge to create a massive bowl in the glass greenhouse on the Weelde premises. With subsidies from the township of Rotterdam, we have created a unique location. They now offer skate lessons and workshops for young and old, to introduce them to the sport. This place is home to a network of creatives in and around the Rotterdam skate scene who fill The Poolcafé with music, film, photography, design, and art.
The realization by Nine Yards
We were asked to create this bowl due to our extensive experience in wooden skateparks. We have realized many wooden tracks and are highly skilled in this regard. With an in-house CNC machine, we milled the entire skate course. The space was completely transformed, with the bowl and a large staircase with skate-able steps, which also serves as a grandstand. The wood provides the perfect riding experience. The bowl has 2 levels and is equipped with Poolcoping and traditional coping for long-lasting durability. The artwork in the bowl was designed by artist Thomas Trum, giving The Poolcafé its iconic look.
