High-quality sports facility: the new skatepark in Amersfoort with international appeal.
Once again, the skateboarding community in the Netherlands has gained a new skatepark. The Nine Yards team built this brand-new skatepark, located in Amersfoort. It’s the very first design by Constructo in the Netherlands! The park provides a modern, safe, and inspiring environment not only for skaters of all levels but also for inline skaters, BMX riders, and scooters. This skatepark was designed with a unique focus on greening and sustainability, aligning with Amersfoort's ambition to be the greenest city in Europe.
The needs of the city of Amersfoort
In the summer of 2021, the municipality of Amersfoort initiated discussions about the much-needed renovation of the skatepark after the old park was declared unsafe due to damage caused by vandalism and extreme weather conditions. The municipality sought not only a modern, safe, and versatile skatepark but also a solution that would contribute to the greening of the city and improved water management.
The realization by Nine Yards
Of the original 3,000 m² of asphalt, half was transformed into a green space with trees and grass. This not only creates a cooler, shaded environment where people can gather but also plays a crucial role in improving water drainage.
This greening initiative aligns perfectly with Amersfoort's sustainability ambitions and was made possible through additional subsidies from green budgets, in addition to sports funding. This skatepark seamlessly fits within Amersfoort's recognition as the greenest city in Europe.
Our approach included not only the construction but also the coordination of health and safety (H&S) plans, environmental management, and communication with stakeholders. By working closely with the municipality and local skaters, we have created a park that everyone can be proud of.

In the renovated skatepark, skateboarders, inline skaters, scooter riders, and BMX riders of all ages and skill levels have more space and enjoy more greenery.
To show the character of Amersfoort as a cobblestone city, cobblestones are integrated into the design. These elements not only add a unique visual aspect, but also strengthen the bond between the park and the city.
In addition to the street course, the park has a bowl, a pump track, and plenty of space for beginning skaters. This is a park that you have to visit as a fanatic skater.
